Concerning schoolroom, basic idea hypothesis can be summed up as follow: Meaning of Critical Thinking ââ¬Å" Critical Thinking is the general term given to an expansive extent of subjective and objective demeanor expected to strongly put, dissect, and measure proclamations and truth claims ; to recognize and improve of individual biass and preferences ; to elucidate and show changing over grounds on the side of choices, and to do reasonable, astute conclusions about what to accept and what to make. ââ¬Å" ( Gregory Bassharn, william Irwin, Henry Nardone, James M.Wallace, 1959, Critical idea: an understudy ââ¬Ës debut ) . Nearly students in my classification have neââ¬â¢er been instructed how to accept strongly about a proficient issue, how to appropriately comprehend and gauge it. That is accepting fundamentally. PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIPS TODAY
PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIPS TODAY CHANGES IN PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIPS IN THREE GENERATIONS HomeâºResearch PostsâºCHANGES IN PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIPS IN THREE GENERATIONS Research PostsStephanie Coontz (1992) has changed the way we view the traditional American family in her book, The way we never were: American families and the nostalgia trap, and she has broken the myths that have kept us under the Illusion of the American family life with which we tend to measure the current state and trends in the American families. If we were to list out what exactly to us is the Traditional American family we would move on to describe mostly two kinds of family structures-One that was dominated by the grandparents as the head of the families and all members living under the same roof with harmony, where children were well taken care of and grew up secure under the love and guidance of their grandparents and parents. This was more of an authoritarian disciplined family structure where going against the rules of the family w ould be seen as sacrilege of the family norms and values. Due to a shared sense of responsibility the children grew up understanding their responsibilities as individuals in a close knit family structure. The whole family structure was looked upon as a system where each part was working together to keep the structure running. The other family structure would be of a nuclear family which is more similar to the modern family where the parents are intimately connected with each other and the mother is self sacrificing who is pre-occupied with giving the right kind of values to her children like sheltering âchildren from premature exposure to sexâand other financial worries. She is the perfect homemaker who takes immense pleasure in staying at home and taking care of her children and is also a devoted and doting wife. The husband/ father in this case is the âbreadwinnerâ and head of the family who advices his children ânot to sacrifice their education by going to work too early â. The parent child relations in such cases are more friendly and where parents and children both evolve and grow simultaneously through trial and errors. However, according to Coontz (1992) these are just myths that have prevailed in the society and are harbored by more and more Americans âgiven the fragility of many modern commitmentsâ. Coontz believes that the societies that existed back then were not as perfect as they are presumed to be. Most of the images formed in peopleâs minds are the ideal situations much publicized and exaggerated and they resemble âreruns of old television seriesâ.Coontz in her book talks about two kinds of family structures that emerged in the 1920s which are very similar to a typical white, middle class family structure. There were families where the mothers were completely devoted to their children and were available to them at all times while they had a very âstilted and formalâ relationship with their husbands. The second type of stru cture focused more on the husband and wife relationship where the wife was completely devoted to her husband catering to his sexual needs and demands while any emotional âoverinvestmentâ in the children was looked down upon as an emotional weakness. While another idea that struck in the 1950s was that the woman should be able to balance both the aspects-mother-child relationship and husband-wife relationship, skilfully and willfully such that it drove a lot of woman to take to medications because of the immense pressure of perfecting their lives as per the prevailing idea. This resemblance is striking as it bears similarities with the relationships that our family had in those days and time. Just as Coontz describes ours is a typical white middle class American family where our bread and butter came from the family enterprise where all the sons were actively involved in the family business. As such my grandparents and we lived together and during the initial years my uncles staye d with their families in the same house. But as the families grew bigger they built their own houses just close by but were still involved in the family business. My father being the eldest stayed at grandfatherâs house. Grandfather being the head of the family most family decisions were taken after they were discussed with him. All the ladies in the house were busy with the household chores and the bustle of so many kids that needed to be taken care of. Everything in the house was shared even toys and nothing really belonged to an individual family in the household. Although my father took good care of my mother private moments between them were few and far between. My father was a typical son who would do his work and come back home with grandfather, sit with the whole family for dinner and retire to bed early since he would be very tired at the end of the day. I had never seen my grandfather and father discuss anything but the family business with each other. Father would alway s respect my grandfather and not question his decision openly. They shared I suppose a respectful father son relationship which was more formal than personal. On Sundays, there would be revelry at home as all the family members-my uncles who had moved out by then and their families-would come over for the whole day. That was the day grandfather would spend time with us.The family business dwindled and my uncles moved out of the business to start something on their own and eventually we had to close the family business. Thereafter my father had to take the lead in running the family and my mother took to baking and supplying bakery products to give us a comfortable lifestyle and also take care of my grandparents. My father would often consult my mother on work related issues and would advice her in running her own business. We would also be involved in helping our mother out in her home production of baked products. As such our rapport with our parents was more personal than our gran dparentsâ with their children. This arrangement also brought in some changes over the years in the interpersonal relationships with each other. My grandfather was no longer the head of the family and the decision making was not just one personâs right. We all made our own decisions in our own way. When I was 11years of age I no longer worked with my mum in the kitchen instead spent time with my friends. However, my sister who was 13 years still took a lot of interest in mumâs baking business. Although my dad would get upset if I was out very late still he never brought this up with me directly instead conveyed it through my mother. As I grew up and readied myself for college I remember having long discussions with my father for the first time and that brought us closer. My father recalled not having such conversations with my grandfather all his life. Since, we all had our own work priorities and our own schedules we did not have dinners together at night. My father still ha d the habit of eating early just like my grandparents did and sleep early while my sister and I would come back home in our own time and ate in our rooms. I moved out when I was 18 years of age. So, yes there has been a change through the generations as our economic lifestyle underwent a change from a family business to my father being employed later in his life. With the shift in the head of the family the decision making and the culture of the house underwent a change. My mother was earning and independent and had regular discussions with my father which never happened before.Similarly, there is no way of saying which family structure was better and beneficial for us-the way my father lead most part of his life or the way we lead our lives. As Coontz (1992) puts it that a âtraditional two-parent families had never guaranteed women and children protection from economic deprivation or physical abuseâ. In fact most of the families where the males dominate, the males spend âmone y on beer or recreation while women and children went without needed food and medical careâ. In fact the traditional so to speak âcolonialâ families which are considered to be disciplined and well bred were âpatriarchalâ and authoritative. They could not stand disobedience from their children or their women. This family was only reared or taken care of by a single parent as the mortality rate was very high in those days such that by the time the children turned 21 one of their parents had already died. So, it would be unfair to say that the traditional familiesâ children were more secure than the present day modern families. There were other middle class families where the women were involved in some kind of home production and the children were handed over to the day care centers or the nannies that would look after them. This is the story of the middle class family while the families on the lower strata did not even have this luxury as the children were also involved in working even at an early age.Our family is just one example of white middle class American family that saw three generations in the same house with different value systems and living in different cultural set ups. As the family grew the family business became insufficient to catch up with the fast changing world, higher standards of living and increased family members hence we separated, uncles went their own ways and so did my father. My mother took up baking as she had much time in her hands as the families started living independently and she wanted to contribute to our growing needs. But soon it became her interest. This brought in changes in our relationships as family members. Although my relationship with my father was never very close as he belonged to a different generation altogether but it was also not cordial as my grandfather-fatherâs relationship. I was much closer to my father in terms of discussing work or career related issues. Since, I had always seen my mothe r around and she was always very involved in our lives I was close to her as always. My sister was closer to my mother and they discussed everything from my sisterâs boyfriends to her clothes. We, of course did not see each other at the dinner table everyday but that did not mean that we were not close as a family. I did move out at the age of 18 like all my other friends of my age and started earning my own living and funded my own education but I would often call up home to take important decisions or just to know how they were doing. There have always been debates as to which way is the ideal family structure that produces remarkable members of the society. Lot of people lament the fact that the traditional family system was destroyed by industrialization and that has degenerated the current generation. The families where children were reared at home and were taken off work were also accused of over protecting their children. But the fact is, as Coontz (1992) puts it that the â Families have always been in flux, and often in crisisâ (p. x). All these are just myths that broken families or one parent family usually turn out to be delinquents. There is no fixed rule or idea as to which family structure is the best or was the best. Families and the relationships that each member has with the other will keep changing with the changing age and culture.

My Papaââ¬â¢s Waltz - Battered Knuckles Essay - 686 Words
My Papaââ¬â¢s Waltz - Battered Knuckles Many people look back on memories with a pleasant slant. A backpacker may love to go to the mountains, but every time that person ventures out he encounters a blizzard. The weather is not always conducive to the backpacker and can cause great discomfort. However, when the hiker returns to his normal routine he usually forgets about the bad experience so that he can continue loving the mountains and happily plan his next adventure. Similarly, Theodore Roethkes, My Papas Waltz is a poem about a man who tries to make a horrible event into something much more pleasant to think about. The speaker seems to be remembering back to his childhood and finally uncovers dark memories about his father.â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The speaker in this poem is obviously bothered by the smell of the liquor on his fathers breath and the actions the alcohol facilitates. Some people drink for the sport of getting drunk. However, in this poem, the father is not a pleasant drunk to be around. When the speaker states We romped until the pans / slid from the kitchen shelf, the reader gets the impression that the father is roughhousing with the son (5-6). It is not until the speaker says The hand that held my wrist (9) that one realizes that he is being physically held by his father. The child has no choice but to keep on waltzing. There is nobody that is going to stop what is going on in this house due to the fact that the mother is simply watching. The boy did not realize his father was doing anything wrong until he remembers back to his childhood and comes to understand what really happened. He discovers that his childhood wasnt actually like everyone else. That may be why the speaker is now looking back on these drunken nights and remembering how horrible they were. A strong case for physical abuse could be made by reasoning that this is not just one occurrence of drunken behavior because the speaker reveals how his fathers knuckles are battered. His knuckles would not have been battered if the hitting only happened after one night of drinking on one occasion.Show MoreRelatedMy Papas Waltz by Theodore Roethke Essay examples574 Words à |à 3 PagesIn ââ¬Å"My Papaââ¬â¢s Waltzâ⬠by Theodore Roethke, was a great poem that can mean many different things to many different people of this world. Project Management Program Evaluation And Review Technique
Probably the most important techniques that a project manager must master is the Program Evaluation and Review Technique (PERT) or Arrow Diagram Method (ADM) as known by the Project Management Institute. This method is one of the most common scheduling models in project management (Meredith Mantel, 2009, p 21). A method that analyzes the probabilities of a project finalizing on time. The PERT identifies the worst, best and most likely case scenarios and aids the project manager in developing a simple project schedule while considering risks and deciding which risks to take. Since every project deals with uncertainty at some level and in some form, the PERT is in my opinion the number one technique that every project manager must be well educated on. Ranking second is the Critical Path Method (CPM) or Precedence Diagram Method (PDM). Also considered next to PERT as one of the most common approaches in project management. CPM adds some strength into the scheduling and planning phases of project management by resolving issues with resource allocation (Meredith Mantel, 2009, p 383). CPM takes into consideration the possibilities of decreasing the duration of the project by analyzing the required tasks and resource availability and needs. Crashing a project is a common approach utilized with CPM since its objective is to shorten the length of the project while considering costs tradeoffs. Thick clouds of smoke and ash billowed from the chimneys of every factory as far as the eye could see. The factories all looked the same, tall grey box-like structures erected from the ground. There was no color here. We will write a custom essay sample on After Goodnight Mister Tom Creative Writing or any similar topic only for you Order Now No happiness. It had been 7 years since last came to the city. I never wanted to come back, thought the memories would be too painful, but Mr.. Tom made me come. He said it would be good for me to get over my past. As I looked around, I remembered back to when the station was full of soldiers going off to the war. The bombing had clearly taken its toll on the city. It had been nearly a year since the end of the war and many factories were still damaged. Had become so accustom to the country life that I forgot what the city was like, what is smelled like, what it tasted like. I never thought would be returning to the city where so many bad memories took place. I walked down the station platform to a bench, the same bench where I found my mother that last time I arrived here, it looked to be the very same bench, even after all these years. The city had changed so much, it seemed to be the only thing that hadnââ¬â¢t, and everything was much more boring and plain. Liked down the street looking at all the factories and buildings. The further walked the smaller the buildings became, until they were just houses on the outskirts of the city. I turned down the street of where I used to stay. I stopped outside an old house. My house. This is where was abused, told I was useless and that nobody cares for me, this is where my mother left me. I never liv ed here, it was only a home in which I slept and ate. To me, my home is, and always will be, in Little Weirdo. As the sky began to darken, the autumn leaves glowed a bright orange in the twilight. A red overlay covered the city. The sun a rich red and clouds a bright pink. I turned away and started to look for a place to sleep, an inn. As the last light faded, the sky became a dark blue, the stars twinkling in the night sky and the cool night air whistling in through the open window. I sat down my things in the room and laid on the bed. Tomorrow I will go visit the rest of London, to see what has changed, or what hasnââ¬â¢t. I will visit the school where used to go, maybe itââ¬â¢s still open. Maybe itââ¬â¢s not even there, blown up like the rest of the buildings seemed to be. Darkness overcame me and heaviness filled my eyelids, the strength to hold them open had long left me. How to cite After Goodnight Mister Tom Creative Writing, Papers

Imagery by Edwin Arlington Robinson Essay Sample free essay sample
Mrs. Hawks English CP 1 10 April 2012 Imagery by Edwin Arlington Robinson Edwin Arlington Robinson was born in Head Tide. Maine on December 22. 1869. He moved to a town named Gardiner where he grew up ; the town subsequently provided the theoretical account for a series of verse forms that he wrote throughout his calling as a poet ( Peschel ) . Robinson attended Harvard from 1891 to 1893 even though his parents were against traveling to a school of higher value for the instruction. President Theodore Roosevelt helped Robinson acquire a occupation at the New York Custom House as a clerk in 1905. There. he realized his true passion in life was composing ( Scott ) . Robinson became the first major American poet of the 20th century. ââ¬Å"unique in that he devoted his life to poetry and volitionally paid the monetary value in poorness and obscurityâ⬠( Peschel ) . He was a great poet and could utilize metaphors to enable the reader to be able to visualize his characters and scenes in their heads. Many of Robinsonââ¬â¢s plants follow the same forms. He describes his characters personality through adjectives of the individual or of the scene. Edwin Arlington Robinsonââ¬â¢s poems ââ¬Å"Miniver Cheevyâ⬠. ââ¬Å"Charles Carvilleââ¬â¢s Eyesâ⬠. and ââ¬Å"Richard Coryâ⬠usage imagination to make work forces who are non satisfied with themselves. Imagery is ââ¬Å"the formation of mental images. figures. or similitudes of things. or of such images jointly. â⬠or ââ¬Å"pictorial images and mental imagesâ⬠( Quinn ) . Edwin Arlington Robinson normally doesnââ¬â¢t use imagination from the natural universe. but if or when he does. the images are functional and are made from metaphors and symbolic context ( Scott ) . Every metaphor or simile that Robinson uses while composing his verse form constitutes an image of some kind. His imagination tends to prosecute the readers on their ââ¬Å"sense experienceâ⬠( Quinn ) and this enables them to re -create the narrative. Robinson uses words like ââ¬Å"grew leanâ⬠. ââ¬Å"brightâ⬠. ââ¬Å"iron clothingâ⬠. or ââ¬Å"insufficient eyes. â⬠These words help the reader to visualise how the characters in the poem expression or their demeanour. Robinson wants the reader to experience like they are in the verse form. In the verse form. ââ¬Å"Miniver Cheevyâ⬠. ââ¬Å"Charles Carvilleââ¬â¢s Eyesâ⬠. and ââ¬Å"Richard Coryâ⬠Robinson lets the reader be able to visualize the work forces and how they are experiencing like they are neer satisfied. ââ¬Å"Miniver Cheevyâ⬠portrays a adult male who misses and complains about losing the yesteryear. He non merely misses the good. but besides the bad. Cheevy is normally described as ââ¬Å"a mocking self-portraitâ⬠( Squires ) The manner Robinsonââ¬â¢s tone is in this verse form. it gives the reader imagination of a tired and crabbed old adult male who is neer satisfied with anything in his life. The reader could conceive of him as being average. Cheevy is described as ââ¬Å"leanâ⬠. Robinson says. ââ¬Å"Swords were bright and steeds were tittuping ; â⬠and ââ¬Å"warrior boldâ⬠. He goes on to state in his verse form ââ¬Å"He missed the medieval grace Of Fe vesture. â⬠The manner Robinson uses his im agination here. he gives the feeling that he used to be in the armed forces or he lived during a clip of war. The reader gets the image of the art epoch. or Renaissance. Robinson writes ââ¬Å"Miniver scorned the sought ; but sore annoyed was he without it ; â⬠. Again. this is Miniver Cheevy non being satisfied with himself. By the terminal of the verse form. Miniver Cheevy has come to footings with the fact that he no longer lives in the times of the yesteryear. Robinson says. ââ¬Å"Miniver Cheevy. born excessively late. / scratched his caput and kept on thought ; / Miniver coughed. and called it destiny. and kept on imbibing. â⬠ââ¬Å"Richard Coryâ⬠is about a adult male who is the richest adult male in town and everyone wants to cognize him and everyone wants to be him but despite all of his great qualities and ownerships. he still is non satisfied with himself. The manner Robinson describes Cory is that ââ¬Å"He was a gentleman from sole to coronate. / clean-favoured and imperially slender. â⬠The reader would hold a mind image of a tall adult male who is nice and ââ¬Å"king likeâ⬠( Anderson ) . He portrays images or royalty when he says ââ¬Å"We people on the paving looked at himâ⬠( Robinson ) . When Robinson writes the words. ââ¬Å"imperially slimâ⬠it shows how empty and fragile he is ( Bruccoli ) . Besides. when Robinson writes. ââ¬Å"quietly arrayedâ⬠and ââ¬Å"he was ever human when he talkedâ⬠it shows that he is normal on the interior and he wants to be normal to the people in his town. once more. demoing that he is non satisfied with himself. Richard Cory was so unsated with himself. that ââ¬Å"one composure summer nightâ⬠( Robinson ) he went place and ââ¬Å"put a slug through his caput. â⬠( Robinson ) The fact that it was a ââ¬Å"calm summer nightâ⬠shows imagination of it all being normal and that he did non kill himself on any peculiar dark. This shows that he is unhappy on good and bad yearss. The verse form ââ¬Å"Charles Carvilleââ¬â¢s Eyesâ⬠is about a adult male who tries to look happy to everyone but realistically. he is mourning on the interior. In this. it shows that he is non satisfied with himself for unknown grounds. The reader gets the mental image that Charles Carvilleââ¬â¢s eyes are dull and lifeless. Robinson says. ââ¬Å"His deficient eyes. everlastingly sad: / in them there was no life-glimpse. good or bad. / nor rejoice nor passion in them of all time gleamedâ⬠( Robinson ) . Robinson says. ââ¬Å"Once you knew him. for his oral cavity redeemedâ⬠. All Carville wants is to be peoples friend and one time he was. his image changed. ââ¬Å"His oral cavity was all of him that of all time beamed. / his eyes were regretful. but his oral cavity was gladâ⬠. said Robinson. Robinson besides portrays him as being unheard and ââ¬Å"out of touchâ⬠with the remainder of society. The reader might believe that he is non satisfied with himself because he wants to be heard by the remainder of the community. In Edward Arlington Robinsonââ¬â¢s poems ââ¬Å"Miniver Cheevyâ⬠. ââ¬Å"Charles Carvilleââ¬â¢s Eyesâ⬠. and ââ¬Å"Richard Coryâ⬠Robinson uses similes and metaphors and shows three different menââ¬â¢s personality but all three work forces have something in common. they all are non satisfied with themselves. In ââ¬Å"Richard Coryâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Charles Carvilleââ¬â¢s Eyesâ⬠Robinson shows all of the menââ¬â¢s features. physically and mentally. In ââ¬Å"Miniver Cheevyâ⬠Robinson portrays the manââ¬â¢s mental issues more that his physical. Overall. all three work forces are non satisfied with themselves. Plants Cited Anderson. Rap Music Artist free essay sample
Dry. Watkins points out, that the fact of us ND others being bombarded with these negative images of the young Black Male in the mass media, appears to be taking a heavy toll in terms of the self-image of far too many young Black people and in the way these young people are perceived In the minds of the country, even the world, at large. Dry. Tyson on the other hand Is quite right when he points out that Hip Hop Is not the only source of this negativity. He also points out that much of this negativity began before the advent of Hip Hop.I personally find that the two men basically compliment one anothers view points to the extent that it feels more like a conversation than a debate. Anyway, both of the good Professors bring forth many important points and underline out many of the problems we are facing. We will write a custom essay sample on Rap Music Artist or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Most of the points they bring out though, are not new to many of us, while they may be informative to some of the white students at Brown University. Our task at hand now, as before, is to come up with the solutions to these problems and nip in the bud, any further loss of the members of any of our future generations of young Black Americans.America has never and never could have existed without the African American contribution and It never will be able to. That goes for economic, military, cultural, moral and spiritual realms alike. The sooner we all, understand and operate from this premise the sooner well be able to make this a place that works for everyone here. I believe that certain rappers should take more responsibility for their controversial lyrics because what they say does influence the young people of the world in many different ways. In my paper I would like to use Outpace Muar Shaker for example.Outpace Muar Shaker, also known by his stage names OPAC and briefly as Machiavelli, was an American rapper and actor. Shaker has old over 75 million albums worldwide as of 2010, making him one of the best-selling music artists in the world. Most of Tubas songs are about growing up in violence and hardship in ghettos, racism, other social problems and conflicts with other rappers during the East Coast-West Coast hip hop rivalry. Outpace became quite a sensation, earning praise for his musical and acting talent as well as condemnation for his explicit, violent lyrics.Tubas music shows that he was Into violence and the typical gangster lifestyle. Outpace Shaker was next to Join Death Row Records after Executive Producer Segue Knight paid $1. Million to bail him out of a New York prison Death Row and the east-coast based Bad Boy record label. His track titled Hit Me Up was produced as a simple statement from Outpace and Death Row to Bad Boy. Before this release, Outpace was shot with five bullets and blamed the shooting on Bad Boy. Lyrics read: Killing anti fair but somebody got to do it Youd better back the buck up before you get smacked the buck up This is how we do it on our side. Any of you insignias from New York that want to bring it, bring it. But we anti singing we bringing drama. Buck you and your monotheistic mama. We goanna kill all you mother bucks Well this is how we goanna do this Buck bad boy as a staff, record label, and as a monotheistic crew. And if you want be down with Bad Boy, then buck you too. All of you all motherless buck you, die slow motherhoods. My 44 makes sure all your all kids dont grow. .. West side till we die Buck me we Bad Boy killing. This song would make a young person think it is okay to have gang violence in order to receive respect from the people you want respect from. Instead of promoting gang violence he could have told them it wasnt worth it. With the guidance of Segue Knight he was promoting the opposite of keeping the peace. The Executive Producer of Death Row Records was Segue Knight. Originally from the streets of Southern California, Knight believed that success stemmed from approval from within. Considering his home as the ghetto, Knight stated: The success comes from the streets. Before you can cross over and go to pop, the ghetto got to accept you first. Then you get kids in Utah saying everybody in Compton, Long Beach, and Watts is playing this and dancing to this. This is all right. So you goat go with the ghetto first, period (CTD. In MAT Productions). Knights goal was to portray gangster life in the ghetto as the standard f life everywhere. He wanted to make everyone believe that the hard-core gangsters in Southern California have a good time listening, watching, and living this way, so we can too if we listen to the music and act like the stars in the music videos. However, music videos are not reality and the images of guns, sex, and violence that they contain do not lead to moral lives. When actions like the ones portrayed in the music and in the videos are carried out, there are huge consequences. On the other hand, another song of Outpace Shakers showed a very different side of him and his sic. The song was called Dear Mama dedicated to his mother Affine Shaker, and basically to all mothers around the world. Tubas song Dear Mama was released as the first single for his solo album Me against the World. It was quickly regarded as one of Tubas best works and one of the best rap songs ever. Dear Mama has such emotional range beyond the genre that it was actually chosen to be preserved in the U. S. Library of Congress in 2009. Dear Mama stands out as an example of Tubas true artistry and willingness to address emotional issues that helps him stand out. Although Tubas career was tragically brief and wrought with controversy regarding his gangs rap image, he has become recognized as one of the greatest lyricists to ever rap and example of the genres potential. Dear Mama was gritty and unflinching in its portrayal of Tubas mother and her flaws, but it also recognized the difficulty of being a young single mother in her position. The song is especially unique because it places Outpace outside of the typical rapper image and exposes his vulnerability as a son. Dear Mama shows Tubas emotional range and speaks to sons and mothers everywhere. One moment this artist can talk about We bad boy think this artist should take more responsibility with his music?Yes, I do, because I feel as though if you are going to promote sex, gang violence, and killing you cant turn around and promote respect for mothers over the wor ld. As a famous rapper that people actually love, people will take what he says very seriously and think its cool to do. Then they will go because he said he appreciates his mother theyll say l appreciate my mother and dedicate Dear Mama to her. Artist should be very careful as to what they say and how they say it, or dont say it at all.The reason as to why Outpace can be so different on two songs is because, the songs that Outpace wrote were primarily the way he felt about something going on in his life that had happened, or was happening. This artist was someone who would tell the truth and nothing but the truth and exactly how it was to the public eye. He wasnt afraid to speak his mind and how he felt. You have a right to express your feelings as a human being. I think it is very important that people express themselves instead of holding everything inside. Music was genuinely Tubas way of self-expression.With all that being said I eave to agree with Dry. Boyce Watkins because I feel that children and young adult, and maybe even adults are absorbing what these rappers are saying. People are praising their music and embedding the lyrics in their minds to live with and act on in their everyday lives. As an artist that creates music for people to listen to and to love, the lyrics should be responsible and enlightening words not arrogant and disrespectful. There isnt one person to blame for all rappers lyrics but what people need to understand is that this is an ongoing problem in the black community that needs to be changed.

Advanced critical writing Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1000 words
Advanced critical writing - Essay Example This is especially the case where employees are set for promotion and career growth. The noble cause of training and developing the human resources is however not without flaws. Training carries potential financial risks and brain drain, especially when trained employees quit immediately after receiving the training. In light of this, training should be accompanied by best practices in employee management such as motivation and proper staffing in order to achieve the best outcomes. This paper argues that employee training is vital to organizations and individual staffs. Employee training and development improves the performance by eliminating most of the weaknesses in the staffs in the workplace. A training initiative enables the organization to sharpen those skills needed by each staff to limit errors and carry out tasks satisfactorily and within a reasonable duration of time (Jayakumar, David, & Sulthan, 2014). Such programs bring all the staffs covered by it to a higher pedestal where the skill-sets and knowledge are relatively uniform. This limits any weaknesses within the human resources which may otherwise prompt heavy reliance on a few staffs to complete certain tasks. Providing the vital training and development creates generally knowledgeable workforces who can stand in for one another and thus improve functioning teams that can work independently without continuous assistance and supervision (Sung, & Choi, 2014). In addition, Latif, Jan and Shaheen (2013) suggested that training limits employee burnout and high turnover rates which otherw ise would be ubiquitous in a workplace environment where the company relies of a few skilled employees to perform non-technical jobs. A structured employee training and development initiative ensures that the staffs have reliable experience and contextual knowledge to handle virtually any corporate challenge which they may come across. Importance of Measuring Returns in Marketing
Importance of Measuring Returns in Marketing Marketing Metrics Background Organizations have rapidly moved into an era of focused marketing spending. Cost cutting is no longer considered the best possible revenue generation vehicle because of its limitations. Tougher economy has put screws to marketing and sales department budgets. It has made marketing to prove itââ¬â¢s spend or at least justify the value of its investment. Ahuja et al., (2001) highlight that cost cutting alone is not enough in increasing a firmââ¬â¢s revenue, nor does it dramatically improve the bottom line over the long term. However, finding the ââ¬Å"lostâ⬠money that isnââ¬â¢t being wisely invested and reallocating it to more strategic marketing programs helps to increase a firmââ¬â¢s revenue and profits year after year after year (Kokkinaki Stefano, 2004). This has given rise to the marketing metrics, marketing mathematics, measurement marketing. Marketing spending is continually been questioned as marketing budgets get slimmer. There is an increasing accountability of marketing spending in the current market climate (Barwise Farley, 2003). The marketing industry has reached an era where the firms are increasingly been forced to spend on profitable activities. The allowance to spend on things that donââ¬â¢t directly support the firmââ¬â¢s strategic plan, vision, and mission is reducing by each passing day. Leaders and higher managers are trying to continuously trying to motivate their firms to identify spending that isnââ¬â¢t tied to investment in the firmââ¬â¢s future (Clark, 1999). This is done to free up the money to reallocate it more strategically to more profitable propositions. The time of overspending with little or no control is drawing to a close. The rise of internet marketing has also increased the relevance and importance of measuring as results can easily be measured online. Online marketers measure things such as ââ¬ËClick-through rateââ¬â¢ (measures the relevancy of e-mail offerings by tracking theà number of unique click-through). One of the other online measures used by organizations like Amazon is the ââ¬ËGoal conversion rateââ¬â¢ (integrates web analytics with e-mail marketing tool to track the metric that matters) . The rise of performance measurement Performance measurement has been touted as an improvement for organizations for decades. Marketing managers and policymakers now have measurement tools to help carry out their responsibilities to deliver and improve services. Performance measurement can provide the link between whats (objectives, targets and performance standards) and hows (behaviors, competencies and processes) of personnel performance (Deery et al., 2002; pg 471). The measurement process involves setting of corporate, department, team and individual objectives. Researchers have recommended that a performance measurement framework should start with an organizational analysis. A decision to implement the performance measurement system should be made according to the organizational principles and model of the organization following the identification of the existing structure and functioning of the organization and the evaluation of the structural problems (Ambler, 2001). The most innovative companies and organization s, do not simply execute one good program, rather, they integrate advanced management techniques into a comprehensive approach to productivity improvement. They use performance measurement and evaluation to help establish goals and measure results, estimate and justify resource requirements, reallocate resources, develop organization improvement strategies and motivate personnel to improve performance (Schaufeli Buunk, 2003; pg 383). While some organizations do not believe in assembling data for measuring, others find marketing metrics hard to assemble. Lack of IT systems can be partly blamed as many organizations find different metrics scattered across the organization for different time periods, different customer and stakeholder segments, and a multitude of purposes. Aims Objectives Aim To identify and demonstrate the importance of measuring returns in marketing The Purpose of this research is to gain fresh insights into the concept of marketing measurement, analyze the significance and relevance of measurement in the current marketing climate. All relevant measurement variables used by organizations to measure marketing effectiveness will be demonstrated. Their affect on strategic decision making will also be looked into. Objectives To analyze the importance of measuring marketing activities The research demonstrates the importance of measuring and the problems that might arise when marketing activities are not measured. Increased competition and lack of capital is making the marketing budget shrink which has meant more intelligent use of marketing money. This has greatly increased the importance of measurement within the marketing community as they want to know areas of higher return and focus their spend on these areas. To assess the benefits of measurement activities The study not only highlights the benefits of measurement but also demonstrates the loss by not measuring marketing activities. In the process, it also considers the extra cost which the organization may incur while measuring these activities (cost in the form of technology, people and other fixed and variables cost) To illustrate and depict the relationship between marketing measurements and strategic decision making. The research does not study the marketing measurement activities in isolation. It relates the impact of these measurements on strategic decision making. It takes the case of various medium and large organizations to justify the importance of measuring. It discusses the use of marketing measures by other organizations and the impact they have on strategic and tactical decisions. To examine the difficulties faced by organizations looking to measure marketing activities. Marketing activities are not easy to measure and organizations can face technical and process difficulties in trying to measure its marketing returns. Smaller and medium sized organizations may have to make investments in technology and human expertise in order to measure their activities. It can also change the way data is stored in the data bases and other technical issues. The research will analyze these factors and make conclusions after doing a cost benefit analysis of marketing measurements. To make appropriate recommendations regarding marketing measurements. The research will recommend specific metrics and the way they should be measured to give accurate and timely information to the organizations. It will discuss the use of these metrics under different marketing situations and budget constraints. Scope The scope of the research is limited to secondary research. There is limited field research done for the purpose of this research. Also, there are a huge number of different metrics used by organizations across the globe, the study looks at the most common and appropriate measures. There might be other marketing measures which are equally suitable. Also, the research is generic in nature which means that a particular measure discussed might not be suitable for a particular organization at a particular time. The measures and metrics suggested does not relate to the nature, structure and culture of the organization. The study does mention the relevance of discussed measures under varying circumstances. Rationale The interesting perceptions with contradictory thinking with regards to marketing measurements is what aroused sufficient interest in the author to go in for a research into the concept which has become a part of the marketing decision making and corporate strategy. Although, conventional wisdom dictates that measuring marketing activities will give an organization a good indication of their effectiveness, in reality, marketing measurement is still not practiced by most organizations. It has also been inefficient for others because of the use of irrelevant measures. This makes the topic even more interesting because it is not just the use of measures that leads to effectiveness but its the use of relevant and appropriate measure. This tricky concept of marketing measurements was what made the author go in for a research as no existing literature gave a clear-cut judgment on the subject. Get help with your essay from our expert essay writers Layout and structure of the dissertation The dissertation is laid out in five chapters, sub-divided logically on the basis of their relative importance to the study. Greek Mythology and Greek Goddess Aphrodite Essay
The Greek Goddess Aphrodite is known as the Goddess of beauty, love, and pleasure. Aphrodite is equivalent to the Roman form Venus. She is a major goddess that was known to be youthful and the most appealing. As the god of love and affection, she has been involved in many affairs which also resulted in many children. The Goddess is believed to have been born from Ouranoââ¬â¢s damaged genital thrown into the sea by Kronos after a fight. From the damaged part, she was born and arose with a foam in the sea. According to the Greek poet Homer, she was born from the God Zeus and the Goddess Dione. Because she was beautiful, many Gods wanted her for their wife. All of them argued over her along with Zeus. The arguments over Aphrodite continued; Zeus was rejected by Aphrodite. In punishment for rejection and for the good of ending all arguments, Zeus forced her to marry Hephaestus, an ugly god of blacksmiths. She was not faithful in her relationship with the God of Blacksmiths and had affairs with other gods such as Poseidon, Hermes, Dionysos, Phaethon, and others. her most famous affair was with Ares, the god of war. Hephaestus was suspicious of her and set up a trap to catch her while she was with Ares. He chained them and dragged them to Olympus to show their shame. They did not take it seriously, resulting in the two being freed and Ares paying a fine. Aphrodite had no children with Hephaestus; her children with Poseidon are Rhodos and Herophilos. Harmonia, Deimos, Phobos, The Erotes, and Anteros was with Ares. Hermesââ¬â¢s children are Tyche, Peitho, Eunomia, and Hermaproditos. The Charites and Priapus and children of Dionysos. Children from various others are Beroe, Astynoos, Aeneas, Lyrus, Lyrus, and Meligounis. Aphrodite played a major role in causing the Trojan War. She was involved in a disagreement with Athena and Hera that resulted in the Trojan War. Aphrodite promised the Helen of Troy to Paris while she was already married to King Menelaus of Sparta. Outraged by event and abduction of his wife, the King sent his army to fight in the city of Troy. The Trojan War resulted in the destruction of Troy.

Media Influence On Nursing Image
?The media and especially Hollywood have been one of the most influential factors on how the public view nursing as a profession. As nurses we need to recognize both the negative and positive images the media have on nursing and try in our day to day interactions with the general public to change these perceptions. Negative stereotypes are everywhere and involve almost everyone no matter what profession or business you are in. A nurse has long been stereotyped as ââ¬Å"helperâ⬠and still is in todayââ¬â¢s world. Many patients I work with now still feel that, when they are admitted to the hospital the nurse is to do everything for them including catering to their activities of daily living, although they can do it themselves. For example, I assist a patient out of bed to the wash basin to wash their face and brush their teeth and they sit waiting for the nurse to come in and perform these tasks asââ¬â¢ it is their dutyââ¬â¢. Here I have to redirect and encourage them to do as much as the can and staff will assist to take of the rest. It is safe to say the media and especially television seem to get aââ¬â¢ kickââ¬â¢ out of portraying nurses negatively.Almost all TV shows I can think of portray nurses in a negative way. Although there may be a positive as seen in ââ¬ËMercyââ¬â¢ where the doctor told the interns, ââ¬Ëthese are the nurses, they should be your be your best friend, they most times know more than you doââ¬â¢ holds so much truth in that statement and should be seen as a positive. The same show over shadows this positive with numerous negative behaviors of the same nurses. I am not a big fan of television but happened to see one episode ofââ¬â¢ Nurse Jackieââ¬â¢ that made me very upset. I can just imagine the negative image of the uneducated public watching such a television show.At Halloween the nurse is portrayed as a sex symbol in tight, short and skimpy costumes, when in fact nurses are neatly attired and depict professionalism on and off the job. It is our duty as nurses to practice professionalism at all times so that the public can differentiate the Hollywood portrayed TV nurse as opposed to the professional nurse they will meet in the healthcare system. We can talk to the public at health fairs, church, schools etc. about the nurseââ¬â¢s roles and scope in nursing practice so they will have informed impressions of nurses. Spanish Expressions Using Ir
Like its English counterpart to go, the Spanish verb ir can be used with an incredible variety of meanings. The meanings of phrases using ir cant always be determined logically merely by knowing the meanings of the individual words, so they are best learned through actual use or memorization. Using ââ¬ËIr Aââ¬â¢ as a Type of Future Tense By far the most common expression using ir is ir a followed by an infinitive. For most purposes, it is the equivalent of the English to go to followed by a verb. Thus voy a estudiar means I am going to study. This use of ir a is extremely common in Spanish, so much so that in some parts of Latin America it is the de facto future tense. It even has a nameââ¬âthe periphrastic future. (Something periphrastic uses more than one word.) Where it is in common use, it all but replaces the standard or conjugated future tense in standard speech. In other words, a sentence such as Vamos a comprar la casa can be translated as either We are going to buy the house or We will buy the house.
